Jerry May
Jerry May

Who is Jerry May ? Jerry May plays a typical style that is liked by a big crowd. His style tends towards Tech House, Funky Tech house mangled in with some techno that makes people recognise him instantly. It seems like May was destined to love any kind of electronic music. His first experience was in 1989 which involved listening to Acid, New Beat, House, Techno, Rave and visiting clubs all over Belgium and Holland. No wonder so many electronic noises worked their way up into his sub consciousness. Beside his DJ career, Jerry May is also a promising producer. Started with producing in 2010 he immediately caught the attention of many big producers who supported his releases, star producers like Len Faki, D-Formation, Paco Osuna, Reset Robot and Nick Chatelain to just name a few from a long list. With his releases on labels like Detone Music (UK), Bonzai Records (BE), Beatfreak Rec. (ESP), Sub Society (USA) and Code2 Records (DE). Jerry May got pretty fast into airtime on the famous radio show Toolroom Knights, selected by Mark Knight. Also Roger Sanchez air timed he's track "Gods creation" on he's radio show "Release Yourself" and announced it as "coming up next.. Jerry May and I'M LOVIN' THIS TRACK God's Creation“. His entourage comments “He’s definitely an upcoming dj/producer to look out for”. Even today he is caught in the music, since he lays his soul into the A&R of Pron Records the Label of Jerry May & Chris Hughes, one of the new upcoming labels. Together with the crew at Pron Records he seeks the right vibes and sounds for the label. Over the past two years Jerry May exploded over the club, festival and party scene. Noticed and pushed by Café d'Anvers club nights (Push It) , Jerry had the chance to exploit his unique style & sets to the people, and oh boy, he exploited himself like a real party killer. Heads and hands go up, yelling, whooping and bouncing is not unusual while Jerry is on the decks, which he shared with the cream of the earth: Carlo Lio, Reset Robot, Ellen Allien, Technasia, Darren Emerson, Butch, Kaiserdisco, Dyed Soundorom, Marco Carola, Mark Fanciulli and many more. May’s biggest gigs include Tomorrowland, Laundry Day, Ostend Beach, Neverland and he’s a more then frequent dj at party’s who been held in the famous club Cafe d’Anvers. Beside that he also got invited to clubs like H20, Studio 80 (NL), Cherry Moon, La Rocca and Wood. Recently Jerry May started to try it abroad and got a few gigs in Magiq Republiq Festival (Italy), Electronic Lounge (Germany), Club Silver (France), Club Cafe 1001 (London), Studio 80 (Amsterdam), ADE 2011 and has been invited to play at IMS Ibiza for his label. We think that the international gate for Jerry is opened and from here on, it can only go up! Influences Hermanez, Ramon Tapia, David Berrie, Pele & Shawnecy, D-Formation, Andhim, Nice7, Carlo Lio, Josh Wink. Jerry May sets will mainly be Tech House - Techno – Underground. A man with a love for House, all kinds, my specialities are more geared towards House based in electronics and soundscape vocals, but have an appreciation for all House. Deep House/DeepTech/Tech House, even some Trance and DnB, that's what I'll be spinning. My first time mixing I was 10, with a bunch of kids from my neighborhood, I used 2 Close n Plays in my garage. I'm 61 now, I'm sure you know math. I was lucky to have been involved with developing Buffalo's more forward thinking clubs amd events. The largest was NETWORK, owned by former Bill's Quarterback Jim Kelly and held 2000 people and was packed Thurs-Sat. For years I was a reporting member of the now defunct Rockpool, based out of NYC and closely associated with the New Music Seminar. I attended that event each year. I started in 83 with my first residency spinning Top 40. I then moved into a different direction. Following my start I DJ'd Post Punk Alternative at The Continental, then House at JAM Club, then Industrial at ICON, then DnB at Artists & Models. With another talent, Chris XOtec Moody, we hosted the first Rave nights at Adventure Club. I helped introduce House music to Buffalo, hosting events under the name Clubhouse 9, hosted at the Tralf and broadcast on Local Access Cable Channel 5. For about 16 years I flew from Florida to Buffalo to help my friend Robbie Takac with his charity event, Music Is Art. From small beginnings to now being a massive day long music and arts festival, I've been honored to be a part of this amazing event. I also produce my own music under the name Chronic Masterminds, you can find some of those tracks here, as well as on my YouTube channel. I walked away from DJing in '97 when I was married, gave a lot of my vinyl to other friends who DJ'd, kept a few crates for myself. Now I'm back.

"END-OF-SCHOOL parties are usually noted for the destruction of friendships and common room furniture rather than the creation of world-class DJs. But 1986 bucked that trend and a new Deity of the Decks was born. When some friends needed help staging a school leaving party for 2000 people, Matt Solo - who would later become DJ MATT PROMO - threw together a Party Survival Kit and grabbed the helm. One rebel-rousing party later, his destiny was determined. Less than three years down the line, he was managing a group of British DJs and forging connections with clubs that still stand strong today. By the early '90s, he was running a London record store, staging his own events and helping others promote theirs. In 1996, Matt quit the record store and started selling promos direct to the same DJs he'd served over the counter. At the same time he launched the infamous Aural Sex parties - and with them, his own DJ career. In his first year behind the decks, Promo played at some of the most famous clubs in London, including; Ministry of Sound, The End, Heaven, Turnmills and Hanover Grand. So respected were his skills at the decks and diverse knowledge of music, he was called in to sound check Liverpool's super-club Cream and even London's Fabric before opening night, making him the first person to DJ on the club's legendary system. It was time to turn his attention overseas and he was soon playing in Europe, America and Canada. Back on British terra firma, he launched the hugely successful Good Life parties - and broke bar and attendance records. In 2002 he established the 3D collective with Pedro G of Portugal and Spain's Enrique Soto. The trio played in various venues in London and around Europe as well as a monthly slot on Ministry of Sound's radio station as guests on the Secret Sessions (with an online audience of more than seven million!). By Summer 2003, he had completed seven new mixes and tweaked his first album to near completion. That December, he moved to Melbourne, Australia, where he rapidly established his reputation on the club circuit as a DJ and a venue manager. From Summer 2005 he started training in earnest to attempt breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest DJ (club) session marathon, which stood at 84 hours. At midnight on June 15th 2006 his training had paid off as he concluded his effort reaching a staggering 87 hours continuous DJing. The event took place in a purpose built venue in the heart of Melbourne's Federation Square. This wasn't the only record PROMO broke for marathon sessions. On a slightly more modest note; he played the longest live set on Kiss FM - also in Melbourne, Australia - clocking up over 7 1/2 hours continuous live play on the station. Kiss was a regular haunt for him whilst in Melbourne playing the breakfast show weekly; as well as guest spots on the club lunch and evening shows. 2006 brought new partnerships including; MINDLESS ENTERTAINMENT who now represent him for Australia; and NOISE TV who offered PROMO the chance to write and host the dance segments of their show. Returning to London in 2007, PROMO inevitably found himself behind the decks in no time holding a Sunday residency at CANT STOP WONT STOP at Herbal in Shoreditch (which sadly closed its doors for the last time recently), as well as numerous other appearances. His current projects include SPANGLED LOVE MONKEY at Canal125 in Kings Cross, plus a long overdue return to the studio for production and remixing. To date, MATT PROMO has played in; Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and the USA. His style encompasses a broad spectrum of house, including sublime jazzy sounds of Europe and the US, minimal, tech, progressive and tribal. Here is a brief summary of the last three decades: 24 years experience DJing 3 1/2 years running a London record store 1 year running direct to DJ promo service Staged / Promoted / DJ'd events all over the world Broke the Guinness World Record for the Longest DJ (Club) Session Marathon Directed and hosted his own segment of an Australian TV show 100s of hours live DJing on radio Managed DJs Co-managed DJ agency Managed and promoted nightclubs Produced over 100 tracks Recorded over 100 full mixes
