OK so I've decided to start mixing again after many years of not playing and some gentle persuasion from the whole lockdown thing 😕 Anyway..... A fair few years go now I started Mixing on some cheap gemini CDJ things, mostly hard house, then UK Hardcore and Hardstyle then became crazy for Psytrance and soon became obsessed with vinyl & soon after found myself playing/practicing every single day and after a year began playing for various online radio Stations (Dance Transmission I miss you the most) either solo or back to back with my good friend Jonesy on most nights of the week I/We played loads of & events here and there and began building a name for myself/Ourselves all be it limited name but a name none the less, kept going for quite a while and TBF got pretty good, bagged some really nice bookings, even started my own events (Flik Ya Bean) so I was definitely on the way, then Life happened, Illness struck within the family that took a lot of my time and energy along with other major personal life changes a little further down the line meant it all came to an end and anybody thats been there knows that a name that takes you ages to build can be lost in no time at all so yeah, I gave up, not gave up trying but gave up all together!! perhaps I shouldn't of, who knows but after my beautiful wife surprised me with some new digital equipment a couple of years ago to try and get me musically happy again which I rudely left gathering dust in its box (My Bad, Sorry Mollz) and now this lockdown situation, I've finally got my lazy ass mixing again but please bare in mind we're getting close to a decade since I've played a tune in anger plus my collection of good shit is long gone so I've had to scrape together what I could and most of what I found were LQ MP3 but here I am and thanks to a good friend (Thanks Jay) Kindly lending me some sounds I'm back in, all be it just for my own amusement as I'm not what I once was lol Just discovered this cool site so I'll start uploading tomorrow 😁 Thank you for stopping by and listening. higher quality download's of my mixes are available @ https://www.mixcloud.com/PsytropixDJ/ or https://soundcloud.com/user-960342001 Much love, Psytropix!!

My passion for dance music kick started in 88 thanks to the new sounds that was House Music. I am pleased to have been a part of the original rave scene and the heady weekend cruises to find illegal raves in obscure farms, fields and industrial buildings. Not only that, but the great Sterns / Mansion House was right on my doorstep, there were some crazy nights, awesome DJ's, deep arse bass, and a lightly drippy ceiling (if you went, you know what I mean). As a poor student, I cut my teeth mixing using Soundlab DLP3's before growing up into Technics, then Vestax PDX D3, which knocked the spots off the Techs, then Stanton STR8's. These days the vinyl and decks stay in the loft as I ported over to using M-Audio Xponent and AVID Torq2. So over the years, my musical styles have changed little, I still love Old School House, Hard/Hip House, Acid, Trance and a decent mashup. Insight over, back to the music.

2x Technics SL1210 Mk II Citronic Pro-10 2 x Pioneer CDJ 400 Kaoss Pad II iKey Plus - recorded to WAV Audacity - compress to 320kbps  MP3 All my mixes are done real time without software. Sometimes I edit with Audacity to remove errors. 6000+  vinyl & 3000+ cd: 80s synthpop, soul/funk, electro, hip hop, dub & roots, chicago house, acid house, rave/hardcore, techno, handbag house, hard techno, detroit techno, drum & bass, IDM, ambient, trance, tech-house, progressive house, electro house, dubstep, and a bit of everything in between! for collection listing and pics: http://www.discogs.com/user/steady-j Where do I start? Graeme Park, WARP, Public Enemy, Autechre, No U Turn, Alex Patterson, Roger Troutman, Juan Atkins, Todd Terry, Jeff Mills, Pete Namlook, Mark Archer Been into music since I was a kid - soul & funk on the radio with Robbie Vincent on a Sunday eve after Annie Nightingale after the Charts! Hooked on house from when I first heard those first few "House" records from Chicago in late 86 - Love Can't Turn Around, Jack Your Body etc. Also into Hip Hop big time in those days - first it was Mantronix & LL CoolJ, then Public Enemy, NWA, Run DMC all that stuff! Got the record buying bug at Uni. Cut my mixing teeth at University Radio and bought some Soundlab decks with my summer job money. They wore out in about 4 or 5 years and were replaced by the Technics. Following Dance Music's twists and turns through the years, trying most things, but not loving all genres. My biggest musical regret is spurning the nascent hardcore scene when the tracks were still sounding rough and ropey, and I missed out on the development of jungle between 92-95, picking up again with the techstep thing in 95. But I sure as hell bought a lot of house and techno in those years! Late 90s I concentrated on techno, D&B and "IDM"  - the whole WARP/Aphex/Autechre spawned genre of electronic listening music and experimentation. But I kept ujp with the commercial house and trance stuff too. Spent a lot of money on vinyl and clubbing in those days, Styles I never really got into (but still enjoy in the right circumstances) include happy hardcore, gabba, breaks, minimal and UKG (until dubstep and its more recent mutations). Early 2000s was lean years for me with starting a family, plus illness, slowing down my clubbing and music purchasing. A Numark CD deck joined my setup but became unreliable after a few years and was replaced by the Pioneers. Picked up again in the last few years with more new purchases than in the early 2000s but still a lot less than in the 90s due to time and funding limitations. Nowadays listening to D&B, dubstep, house, techno, and any eclectic stuff that catches my ear. Mostly buy CDs and MP3 now due to the cost of vinyl but still love mixing vinyl and prefer the hands-on approach, hence the Pioneers instead of a laptop. The Citronic is the third mixer I have owned and by far the best. The Kaoss Pad was a lucky bargain from a friend of a friend, and the iKey is essential for recording, after years of using tape and minidisc! I listed "house" as my favourite genre, not because that is what I favour most at present, but because in a way it's all house music. To me, Chicago House (and Detroit Techno) circa 1986 was the focal point, the narrowing in the funnel of all music, that then went on to fan out and spawn all the music I love. And by the way, I know its a long shot, if you like what you hear, any promoters or anyone wanting a DJ for a club, bar or even a party, somewhere around the West Midlands and Worcestershire, UK (I live in Malvern) in any of the styles of any of my mixes uploaded here, just get in touch!
