Sonny-Woods
Sonny-Woods

Short Biog taken from Terminal Magazine: SONNY WOODS (aKa DJ SONNY / D-MIX / TEC II / MIXMASTER D) Sonny has been at the heart of the underground dance music scene since the early Hip Hop days of 1983. He is the man responsible for putting on Shrewsbury’s very first rave & club events back in ’89-93 & was Shropshire’s very first actual ‘Mixing DJ’. In the early 90’s, using various DJ pseudonyms, Sonny performed at many of UK’s premier rave events in including Amnesia, Perception, Vision (38,000 people), Pandemonium, Shelleys & Kinetic in Stoke & the Eclipse in Coventry, playing alongside the likes of The Prodigy, Orbital, Carl Cox, Sasha, Fabio & Grooverider. Sonny also held prestigious residencies at various club nights in Manchester, London, Stoke & a mid-week residency with Sasha in Birmingham. In 1992 Sonny opened Bassment Records, Shrewsbury’s very first underground record shop, & then in ‘93 this all culminated with a 3 month DJ tour of Australia. After a few years break from DJing through to 1996, Sonny then tried his hand at making records along with friend Adrian Bebbington. Their very first demo tape resulted in them being signed by Simon Dunmore to one of the world's biggest dance labels, A&M records, on a 5 EP deal as artist's 'Clockwork Soul' on a new dance label project. Their first promo EP received airplay from Danny Rampling on Radio 1, and great reviews by both DJ mag & Mixmag. It also stirred great interest at the Miami music conference, leading to a possible US deal with Jon Cutler's label. But unfortunately, whilst all this was happening, Simon Dunmore left A&M & so they cancelled his project & Sonny and Adrian went different ways, so nothing major came of it....a big shame! More recently Sonny has enjoyed success with his seminal nationwide underground event‘PLANET of the BREAKS’.Sonny has made available over 18 hours of his Old Skool mixes from 1988-93, all re-stored & re-mastered from original tape recordings, many of which were taken live at various events. These mixes represent a bit of a musical journey covering most styles of Old-Skool Dance including Deep, Funky & Acid House, Detroit Techno, Italo Piano, European New Beat, Hardcore Breakbeat & UK Progressive House. All these mixes were done at a time when there were no Mixer EQ’s, fancy FX or even DJ monitors at many events! Enjoy….

Atmos-fear
Atmos-fear

A little something about myself.. I started buying gabber/acid and trance vinyl records at the age of 17 to try out the analogue mixing stuff with a couple of friends, bought a low budget Numark mixer and snare drive turntables, well off course that sucked big time! Mixing was doomed at the very beginning with a setup like that and i switched to more expensive direct drives Sl1200 + Dateq XTC which was the right choice.  A few years later we started a pirate radio station "Radio Atmosfear" and played at small time parties and clubhouses...Now at the age of 37 starting to get grey and a slightly deaf at my right ear ;) i still keep on spinning the records but made the change to digital mixing and expanded my interest in electronical music. Nowadays i listen to Deeptech, Techno, Acid, Deephouse and some good Oldskool stuff...getting older so no more gabber and hardstyle for me. Enjoy the sets and stay tuned 4 more to come!                                                Mixed with: NI TRAKTOR S4               Its a wide scene, as i like most influences in electronical music so just a few names..  Joey Beltram/Emmanuel Top/Megamind/Kai Tracid/Asys/Warmduscher/Aphex Twin/Future Sound Of London/Ian Boddy/Orbital/Dave Clarke/LTJ Bukem/Kraftwerk/The Timewriter/Mark Broom/Bas Mooy/Chris Lake/Glenn Morrison/D Unity/Jeff Benett/Expoplanet/Jay Tripwire/Thomas Schwartz/paco buggin/Gui Boratto/Harry Brown/Max Cooper/Extrawelt/SQL/Erphun/Jay Lumen/Applescal/Brendon Moeller/Oliver Klein/Stimming/Hermanez/Dusty kid/Dave Seaman/Len Faki/Alan Fitzpatrick/Spektre/Tommy Four Seven/Speedy J/Dyno/El Farouki/Mauro Picotto/Spiros Kaloumenos/cave/ormatie/Joris Voorn/JeromeSydenham/Lützenkirchen/ Sasha/MikeDehnert/eelke_kleijn/Solee/Virgil Enzinger/D Nemets/Perc/Kroman Celik/Eric Sneo/Adam Beyer/Phunk Investigation/Industrialyzer & Advent/Terence Fixmer/Ben Sims/Kyle Geiger/A paul/Oscar Mulero/Len Faki/Asagaoaudio/Egbert/Secret Cinema/Slam/Milton Channels/Re-Ward/Wehbba/Dirty Disorder/Steve Mac..................many more          OldSkool/Ambient/Drum`n Bass/Minimal Techno/Deep House/Deep Tech/Tribal Techno/Techno/Hard Techno/Progressive Trance/Dark Techno/Oldskool Trance/Industrial/Experimental/Acid/80's and 90's music   Traktor S4 Midicontroller, Sennheiser Headset Traktor pro 2, Vaio laptop

Scott-Lee-Snell
Scott-Lee-Snell

Been into dance music since it began really since the late 80's and it come along at just the right time really just as i was becoming a teenager.Had the slight Breakdance/Early electro phase just before that, then listened to the Chicago house,Detroit house and the British house that was around etc, then seemed to naturally progress into listening to Acid house and the bleepy tunes and techno of 89/90 and then theHardcore/Breakbeat/Rave sound that started not long after that.Used to listen to alot of radio (and have quite an intrest in radio, but thats a different matter) and used to listen to Kiss FM (london) back then, and it was a pirate station at the time, and listened to colin favor and colin dale, and steve jacksons house show and Jules etc,and used to record there shows sometimes, on cassettes i still have actually come to think of it.Got all my old tapes together to have a clean up once and iv ended up with 3 carrier bags full of them.Used to drive up the north downs just a few miles away in friends cars looking down above the countryside in kent trying to recieve london pirate stations like FantasyFM. Was always into gettin mixtapes and recording stuff and radio shows. I always liked editing things,tape/CD/even video at times.I didnt know it back then but thinking about it now whenever anyone of my friends was around my house when i was young i was always putting music on or messing around in one form or another in the background putting on tapes or cd's or records or recording something. I wasnt hardly ever the sort of person to put an album on and play the whole thing through like someone normally would.Id maybe play one track, then take it out and play something else, but then maybe go back to the first album again. So that there really should of been a sign that i had a little bit of a dj inside me.lol.Just always liked playing music to people. From liking the early 90s Hardcore music i kept on following and being influenced by the Djs on that scene so naturally fell into drum and bass cos thats the path alot of them djs went in,but around 1995/1996 i wanted a change and wasnt liking the bouncy cheese that hardcore had become.I was abit lost so went back to just all forms of house music.Dabbled in most genres, and listened to trance if i wanted something abit harder. So now im into alot of house styles. And im liking disco influences in dance music aswell, and its even made me appreciate actual disco music in itself, cos i was to young when disco was first around.Used to be very much into roller discos and skating as a kid, from about 8 to 16yrs old and was pretty good at it and loved it,i dont think i hardly ever missed goin to one, which gives images of disco boogie woogie being played, lol but it was just the national pop chart music. We'd all love a time machine but we cant have one..but thats another great thing about music, its the only time machine we have.A song can instantly take you back to a place and time,or to a fond memory and even briefly give you the exact feeling you had when you was back in that time and just for a few fleeting moments you was back in the past again. But then i have a good memory about most things, and can usually hear a song and be abit geeky and instantly know which year it came out and associate some sort of memory with it and how old i was at the time. Became intrested in the dj aspect and mixing music and i certainly felt the buzz of what doing that can create and make you feel inside. You used to listen to those mix tapes/shows and when 2 tunes hit in the right place & key it is almost bloody magical and sends your biorhythms through the roof.lol. but its always only been a hobby. And so from then and until now iv always been into house and electronic music in general.I own Technics, used VDJand recently Traktor to mix,got my hands on some music producing software and dabbled with that.
